The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2004 by Janet Ross, and operated by Janet and a small group of committed citizens, dedicated to the memory and charitable legacy of Lisa Ross Parker, whose life was taken at age 33 by leukemia.

Although Lisa is no longer with us, her legacy of giving continues through the Lisa Ross Parker Foundation. The organization was founded in 2004 with a mission that encompasses two things most dear to Lisa:

1) Providing support for families touched by cancer, and
2) Assisting animal welfare organizations

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation strives to charitably honor the legacy of Lisa Ross Parker by continuing to pursue her charitable passions, including (but not limited to) assisting and caring for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and other blood-related cancers, and their families.

In addition, we continue Lisa’s legacy by assisting with charitable animal welfare and supporting other animal advocacy organizations that follow the same principles. We are a tax-exempt public operating charity under Internal Revenue Code Sections 501(c)(3) and 509 (a)(1), and our Tax ID Number is 20-5499984.

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Announces Scholarship Winner

AHS Senior Bethany Martin is Selected for 2010

BRENTWOOD, TN – May 16th, 2010 - The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce the winner of the 2010 Lisa Ross Parker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Adamsville High School (TN) and started with the Class of 2007. The $2,000 scholarship goes to a student that has been touched by cancer within their immediate family (parents, siblings, grandparents or legal guardian) and is given out each May.

Lisa was a 1986 graduate of Adamsville High School, which is located in West Tennessee (McNairy County). She was a cheerleader at Adamsville High School, played basketball and also ran track. She was very involved with extracurricular activities in both high school and college.

The winner of the scholarship for 2010 is Bethany Martin of Adamsville High School. Bethany was very involved with many activities at Adamsville High School and finished 12th in her class with a GPA is 3.86. She plans on attending University of Tennessee at Martin and wants to major in nursing.

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Announces Grant Award to Lovie’s Legacy

BRENTWOOD, TN – May 16, 2010 – The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce a $1,625 grant to Lovie’s Legacy for the Lisa Ross Parker Angel Fund. The grant was awarded based on the mission and dedication the organization shows toward animal advocacy.

Lovie’s Legacy (www.lovieslegacy.org) is based in Nashville and the mission of Lovie's Legacy is two-fold. They want to end animal suffering by providing educational programs for children (K-2) to teach them during their formative years about the value and treatment of animals. They want to "help people help animals" by creating awareness that will continue throughout their adult lives. They also support other animal welfare organizations that rescue and provide medical care for animals with no homes, and medical care for animals whose owners are unable to afford medical care.

With the grant, Lovie’s was able to assist many animals that had been abandoned or were strays. The money was given directly to veterinarians to assist in medical treatments. Some of the animals that have been helped with our grant:

1. Holly - Needed some care and heartworm treatments.
2. Sophie – Was rescued from a breeder. She has spent her life having babies. She was so scared she was almost feral, with her hair matted to the skin, her ears cut off and heartworm positive. She was treated for all of these ailments.
3. Elton and Ellsa – Brother and sister that were treated for parvo.
4. Kitten -She was found with a broken leg on the UT Martin campus and was treated.
5. Jughead and Reggie – puppies found in a ditch and treated for parvo.
6. A dog that was taken in by rescuers at Proverbs 12:10. Local animal control wanted it shot but a kindhearted deputy said the poor dog was wagging his tail despite all of the leg pain he was enduring. He was taken to the vet and his leg was amputated in late April. A dog with this kind of spirit deserves to live and see some kindness and he’s doing well now.

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation continues to assists animal welfare organizations and animals in need. Lisa believed that every animal’s life was worth saving. We will continue to assist organizations that have that goal in mind.

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Announces Grant Awards To Local Animal Welfare Organizations

BRENTWOOD, TN – May 16, 2010 – The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce grant awards to three local animal welfare organizations. Each grant was awarded based on the mission and dedication the organizations show toward animal advocacy.

The first grant was for $1,625 and was given to Hope’s Haven Pet Rescue (http://hopeshavenpetrescue.blogspot.com/). With the help of this grant, they have already treated two dogs for sarcoptic mange and one puppy, Gabby, was saved from the dreaded parvo virus. Gabby is a 10 week old boxer mix that was pulled from a high kill shelter (or a better name, “a no chance shelter”). This shelter will euthanize any dog after the 72 hour grace period. They do not adopt out and since January, Hope’s Haven is the only rescue group that has the means to pull from this facility. Gabby was diagnosed with Parvo but because of the Foundation’s donation, Hope’s Haven was able to put Gabby on an intense 24 hour medical treatment of fluids and antibiotics without any hesitations on the financial impact. Gabby is now a happy go lucky puppy that thrives on life. She was able to beat the odds of Parvo and was even able to gain the necessary weight needed to start a new treatment for her demodectic mange.

The second grant was for $750 and was given to Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation (http://www.cheathamanimalcontrol.org). The mission of Cheatham County Animal Awareness Foundation is to find responsible homes for adoptable animals being held at the Cheatham County Animal Control; help to control overpopulation through spay/neuter assistance; and provide a comfortable place for the animals at Animal Control. They do a wonderful job at taking care of animals in their area.

The third grant was for $750 and was given to New Leash on Life (http://www.newleashonline.org). New Leash on Life (NLOL) is dedicated to improving the welfare of companion animals in the Wilson County community through shelter, placement, spay/neuter services, education and awareness. The organization was formed in July 1978 under the original name of the Humane Association of Wilson County. The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Awards Grant to Hope’s Haven Pet Rescue

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation has awarded a $750 grant to Hope's Haven Pet Rescue (http://hopeshavenpetrescue.blogspot.com/). This is the first little guy that will be helped by this grant. He was found on the side of the road and a good samaritan picked him up. When he was brought to Hope's Haven, he was filthy and was covered in fleas. He has already been dewormed and had first vaccinations and will be neutered in the next month or so. He will then be ready for adoption!

BRENTWOOD, TN – July 15th, 2009 – The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce a $750 grant to Lovie’s Legacy for the Lisa Ross Parker Angel Fund. The grant was awarded based on the mission and dedication the organization shows toward animal advocacy.

With the grant, Lovie’s was able to assist 6 dogs that had been abandoned or were strays. The money was given directly to veterinarians and these animals were being taken care of by two rescue groups: Collie Rescue and Proverbs 12:10. With our grant, the following treatments were performed:

IRIS- bacterial and fungal infection
TATER- chronic ear infections, possible neurological damage
ROBBIE - parvo
FIONA - cherry eye surgery and treatment
ABIGAIL - heartworm treatment
COWGIRL- severe ear mites and spay

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Announces Grant Awards To Local Animal Welfare Organizations

 BRENTWOOD, TN – May 15th, 2009 – The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce grant awards to three local animal welfare organizations. Each grant was awarded based on the mission and dedication the organizations show toward animal advocacy.

The first grant of $2,000 was awarded to Happy Tales Humane (www.happytaleshumane.com) for their “Love Fixes Everything” spay/neuter program. With our donation, they will be able to subsidize around 40 surgery certificates for animals that need this procedure done.

The second grant of $1,000 was awarded to Robyn’s Nest, a local animal rescue organization. Robyn's Nest founded in November 2004, is a small grass roots animal rescue, dedicated to helping the stray, abandoned and abused animals in the Whites Creek, Nashville and surrounding areas. With our grant, they were able to do the following procedures for their rescued animals:
1-Spay; 1-Partial Dental; 6- physical examines; 1- Blood Workup; 1- Skin Scraping; 1- Mucus Test; 1-XRay; 6- Prescriptions; 30- Rabies Vaccinations, (1)- Chiropractic Treatment; (1)- Heartworm Treatment. Leiper’s Fork Veterinary Services handled all of the procedures for the animals.

The third grant of $750 was awarded to Lovie’s Legacy (www.lovieslegacy.org) to set up a Lisa Ross Parker Angel Fund. This fund will be used to help animals that need financial assistance with medical procedures. The mission of Lovie's Legacy is two-fold. They want to end animal suffering by providing educational programs for children (K-2) to teach them during their formative years about the value and treatment of animals.  They also want to "help people help animals" by creating awareness that will continue throughout their adult live

The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation Announces Scholarship Winner: AHS Senior Isaac Hernandez is Selected for 2009

BRENTWOOD, TN – May 20th, 2009 - The Lisa Ross Parker Foundation is pleased to announce the winner of the 2009 Lisa Ross Parker Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior from Adamsville High School (TN) and with the Class of 2007. The $2,000 scholarship goes to a student that has been touched by cancer within their immediate family (parents, siblings, grandparents or legal guardian) and is given out each May.

The winner of the scholarship for 2009 is Isaac Hernandez of Adamsville High School. Isaac was very involved with the high school band program at Adamsville.  He is also a very active member of his church. He plans on attending University of Tennessee at Martin and wants to major in pre-medicine.
